The Oak Inn

So we went back (a couple of times) for evening meals and can report that this place is difficult to classify. The bar, bistro and restaurant areas are fine - a mixture of Olde Worlde and retro-modern - with a large parking area (could do with some repair). The cider (haven't tried the beers) is well looked after and presented. The service is a mixture of abrupt and pleasant, but reasonably efficient. The meals also send mixed messages - the belly pork is very good, the lamb was a little tough though reasonably tasty, but the fowl dishes leave room for improvement. We have had the duck and the chicken but both were dry, possibly due to overcooking.

Went for Sunday lunch and will go back for an evening meal from the A la Carte. Mainly because the lunch was good but cooked from a chef's perspective not a 'Sunday lunch customer' one (e.g. Using Sirloin instead of Rib for the beef - good but not the 'authentic' Sunday lunch meal). The starter was good and the dessert selection was enough to cause the Memsahib to deliberate long and hard before choosing the Crème Brulee - I had the ice-cream/sorbet selection.
