So we went back (a couple of times) for evening meals and can report that this place is difficult to classify. The bar, bistro and restaurant areas are fine - a mixture of Olde Worlde and retro-modern - with a large parking area (could do with some repair). The cider (haven't tried the beers) is well looked after and presented. The service is a mixture of abrupt and pleasant, but reasonably efficient. The meals also send mixed messages - the belly pork is very good, the lamb was a little tough though reasonably tasty, but the fowl dishes leave room for improvement. We have had the duck and the chicken but both were dry, possibly due to overcooking. |
